Treatment sessions by a trained and licensed physical therapist are designed to improve circulation, strength, endurance, balance and coordination; increase range of motion; decrease tissue swelling; normalize muscle tone; protect joints during exercise and reduce stress.
Moving and performing special exercises (not simply water aerobics) against the resistance of water is a unique way to help injuries and ailments that affect the joints, muscles and tendons. The buoyancy of water allows patients to move while dramatically decreasing the effects of body weight and/or joint compression for bearing weight on painful joints.
For injured limbs or joints affected by degeneration or repaired by surgery, aquatic therapy offers many benefits. It allows earlier rehabilitation. The resistive nature of water also helps build strength without special equipment. The warmth of the water promotes muscle relaxation and helps speed recovery. People who suffer from arthritis or fibromyalgia often see improved movement from aquatic therapy. Warm water eases uncomfortable extremities by loosening joints.
Our main office in Roanoke has a 20’ X 40’ therapy pool maintained at 88° and humidity-controlled to provide maximum comfort. Men’s and women’s showers and locker rooms are adjacent. Special group classes are available as well as normal therapy services. We also conduct aquatic therapy at three other locations. We have helped thousands of people with aquatic therapy.
